Conterno Fantino – opgericht in 1982 door Claudio Conterno en Guido Fantino – is inmiddels een wijnicoon in Barolo. Als vertegenwoordiger van de moderne Barolostijl maakt deze producent fantastische en toegankelijke wijnen van de nebbiolodruif. Gelukkig hebben de families ook een passie voor de barbera, die andere beroemde druif in Piemonte.

Wijnmaker Fabio Fantino

De wijnstokken staan op een toplocatie in Monforte d'Alba, direct naast de beste Barolowijngaarden. De pluk is laat, pas in oktober, en het rendement laag. De rijping is daardoor lang en gelijkmatig, een absolute voorwaarde om het beste uit deze druif te halen. Want onrijpe barberadruiven, te vroeg geoogst van ongunstig gelegen wijngaarden of van hoge rendementen, zorgen voor een onaangename, agressieve zure smaak.

Hoe anders is deze beeldschone Conterno Fantino. Door de rijpe oogst en het verblijf van tien maanden in eikenhout is het een genot om de wijn in zijn jeugd te drinken. Bij voorkeur bij de maaltijd of met een mooie Italiaanse ham of salami.

Proefnotitie

Uitbundige Piemontese wijn met een diepe, volrode kleur en een krachtig fruitig aroma van vers rood fruit (bessen en kersen). De smaak is geconcentreerd, fris en krachtig en eindigt met fijne, evenwichtige tannine in de afdronk.

Drinken bij

Heerlijk bij koude vleesschotels, maar ook bij kruidige pasta of gegrild vlees.

Houdbaarheid

Drinken vanaf één à twee jaar na de oogst, houdbaar tot zes jaar na oogstdatum.
