Sangiovese

Deze Italiaanse blauwe druif is het meest aangeplante ras in Italië. Wijn van sangiovese heeft meer dan gemiddelde zuren en tannine, plus een robijnrode kleur, zwart fruit en kruidigheid, en kan probleemloos houtopvoeding aan. Er bestaan veel klonen en varianten van deze druif. Zo is sangiovese in de gedaante van sangiovese grosso, prugnolo gentile en brunello de druif achter het Toscaanse supertrio Chianti Classico, Vino Nobile di Montepulciano en Brunello di Montalcino. Ook Morellino di Scansano is een pure sangiovesewijn. Sangiovese laat zich bovendien heel goed mengen met bijvoorbeeld cabernet sauvignon of montepulciano.
