With a bouquet like chiseling through sheer limestone with all of the smoky and flinty nuances that come with it, the 2022 Etna Bianco Le Vigne Niche Calderara Sottana is impossible to ignore.

De bourgogne van de Mediterranée, zo typert eigenaar Marco de Grazia zijn verfijnde, mineralige Siciliaanse wijnen, afkomstig van hellingwijngaarden op de noordelijke flank van de vulkaan de Etna. De hoogte zorgt voor verkoeling en verfijning in de wijnen.

De biologische aanplant en de ambitie om topkwaliteit te maken dwingen Marco tot lage rendementen zodat de inheemse druiven een prachtige expressie hebben. Deze cuvée is gemaakt van één druivensoort, de carricante die van oude wijnstokken komt. Het is met de zorgvuldige vinificatie zoals gisting in eikenhouten fusten en rijping in grote vaten een opvallende Etnawijn.

Slechts 4% van de herkomstbenaming is wit en deze wijn staat volgens velen aan de top. De wijn wordt ongeveer twaalf maanden na de gisting gebotteld.

Proefnotitie

Volgeel van kleur en krachtig van geur, met karameltonen, eiken en rijp geel fruit. De volle, droge smaak is krachtig, aanhoudend en met een fraaie, romige afdronk.

Drinken bij

Uitstekende begeleider van verfijnde visgerechten, kip of konijn in wijnsaus.

Houdbaarheid

Op dronk vanaf twee jaar na de oogst, gemakkelijk tot zeven jaar houdbaar.
