The 2021 Uvaggio is a very pretty, understated wine. Crushed flowers, mint, incense, herbs and pipe tobacco give this mid-weight, nervy Lessona a good bit of aromatic presence.

In 1999 namen de bekende Chiantiproducent Paolo de Marchi en zijn zoon Luca het (voor)ouderlijke domein in Lessona over. De wijngaarden van dit ooit bekende wijngebied liggen in het noordelijke deel van Piemonte, op de uitlopers van de Alpen en op arme grond.

De wijnbouw in Lessona verdween begin 1900 door twee opeenvolgende, door hagel volledig mislukte oogsten en er bleven maar weinig producenten over. Het succes van vader en zoon de Marchi trekt overigens weer nieuwe, jonge wijnmakers aan.

De streek is niet geschikt voor hoge rendementen, maar wel voor wijn van topkwaliteit, met de nadruk op een verfijnde, elegante stijl. Zoals de indrukwekkende Uvaggio, gemaakt van handgeplukte nebbiolo- (80%), vespolina- (15%) en croatinadruiven (5%).

De vergisting vindt plaats met behulp van natuurlijke gistcellen en de wijn rijpt ongeveer achttien maanden in grote eikenhouten vaten van 1.500 liter. Luca zegt zelf dat hij ‘de Bourgogne van Italië’ maakt. Afgemeten aan de verfijning en hoge kwaliteit van zijn wijn is dit een treffende vergelijking!

Proefnotitie

Helderrood van tint met iets evolutie in de kleur. Het aroma is verfijnd kruidig, licht peperig en jam-achtig, met nuances van rijpe kersen. De smaak zet soepel en zacht in en ontwikkelt zich krachtig, met fraaie, milde tannine en een zachte finale. Elegant én met structuur!

Drinken bij

Mooi bij risotto, geroosterd vlees of pittige kazen.

Houdbaarheid

Op dronk vanaf vijf jaar na de oogst, gemakkelijk tot tien jaar houdbaar.
