Barbaresco en Barolo worden beide van de nebbiolodruif gemaakt. De wijngebieden liggen maar tien kilometer bij elkaar vandaan, maar er zijn flinke verschillen. De druiven in Barbaresco rijpen eerder, de wijnen iets korter en in zijn algemeenheid zijn Barbaresco’s eleganter, toegankelijker en sneller op dronk dan Barolo’s.

Rizzi maakt zo’n verfijnde stijl Barbaresco. Het huis staat bekend om zijn klassieke manier van wijn maken, zonder gebruik van nieuw eikenhout of kleine vaten. Na de handmatige oogst en vergisting volgt een rijping van twaalf maanden in grote vaten van 5.000 liter. Hierna pompt Rizzi de wijn over in betonnen kuipen waar de wijn nog eens acht maanden verblijft.

Het resultaat is een verfijnde, elegante stijl Barbaresco met fraaie rijpingstonen van de nebbiolodruif en rijpe tannine. Heel typerend voor de streek en niet verstoord door eikengeur- en smaak.

Deze complexe rode wijn toont zijn kwaliteit optimaal indien u hem een à twee uur van tevoren belucht in een karaf en bij een passend gerecht schenkt. Denk bijvoorbeeld aan rundvlees, wild of paddenstoelenrisotto. Na voldoende rijping (gemiddeld na vijf à zes jaar na de oogst) smaakt de wijn zachter en is dan ook buiten de maaltijd om een traktatie.

Proefnotitie

Helderrood van kleur en verfijnd kruidig van geur, met florale nuances en gekonfijt rood fruit. De smaak zet rond en fris in en ontwikkelt zich aanhoudend met rijpe tannine.

Drinken bij

Elegante, smaakvolle rode wijn, mooi te combineren met verfijnde gerechten van wild of rundvlees.

Houdbaarheid

Decanteer een uur van te voren; houdbaar tot zeker tien jaar na de oogst.
